“Slow in, Slow Out, Arcos, Squash & Stretch…

Before starting with the task of animating Playmobil characters we have to take into account some aspects about the "mobility" of these, because unlike other figures, is quite limited.
The main problem is the absence of "moving" parts or pivots ... only as shown in the image the initial figures could:

- Turn the head 360º
- Turn your arms from your shoulders, not your elbows
- Fold the body forward 90º, do not bend legs or knees

In the current models we have "something" more of movement to be able to turn the hands, thus facilitating some movement or pose more natural at the time of grabbing objects. This "rigidity" has been tormenting me since the first moment because unlike what I have done to date, I am quite reluctant to move the figures simply as if they were slipping.

Even today I have not come up with "magic formula" because despite having been watching countless videos, still the result is not the one I look for. But this does nothing more than encourage me to continue trying it by trying different techniques ...

I think that the solution to date is no other than to try to dispense, as far as possible, plans involving certain immobile parts (walks), to use the middle plane, thus avoiding showing the lower parts or covering them With elements not to show that effect of "sliding"

Anyway, there are indispensable rules when it comes to animating the characters that can be of great help and to save us from difficult situations like the ones mentioned above, in the world of animation they are known by: "The 12 principles of the Animation"

"Slow in, Slow Out, Arches, Squash & Stretch ..." are just some of the principles that can help us to give our characters more naturalness and fluency, but this is another topic to be discussed in more depth, perhaps later.

To summarize, to animate is not only to move, and characters of Playmobil is not only to slide them, we have to endow them with soul, of feelings and of such dynamism if we want to convince to the spectator that the personage is "alive".

“Animar no solo es mover algo” "To animate is not only to move something"

At last I have decided to return to my "pending subject" that is none other than the theme of animation itself.
In fact is the main theme of all this adventure, the epicenter, the raison d'être of my project, so it is fundamental and I think it necessary to be able to give an explanation to the absence of animated sequences to date.
My reasons why I decided at the time to make this project using the animation technique "StopMotion" are still today the following:

It is well known the use of Stopmotion in the making of animated films using other sources or resources such as Claymation or other figures such as LEGO (Brickfilms). And it is precisely this great community of amateurs and professionals from which arises the idea of being able to get to carry out an animation project this time using figures from Playmobil.

In spite of being able to check for a long time as in the networks if you can find numerous material related to this idea ... it is not even by sight (from my humble point of view) of a quality that is at least acceptable or that approaches the shown In LEGO animated films for example.
I do not know what may be the reason why there are very few examples and samples of animation video with Playmobil using stopmotion.

There are exceptions fortunately as the case in our country of the pioneer, and already recognized globally, Cinemano producer with its unblemished both technically and superb stories carried out by the hand of the master Jim Soler ... mention of course another jewel of animation,
"The Sherman Track" of the French production company Films of Copain, or the German J & M Films with their care "slideshows" (I could not call them if I wanted to stopmotion animation).

In spite of the large number of reproductions and visits that receive the videos related to Playmobil (As far as animation is concerned) ... the truth is that quality in general is not comparable to its competitors. "To animate is not only to move" ... it is not to take our Smartphone or our camera of photos and to put to us to move the figures without more ... I am speaking of doing something good ... something of quality and with the Professionalism that I believe can be done.

The animation is something more ... it is about endowing our characters with life, of transmitting a story, emotions ... using for it how many means we have at our reach and to be ... quality. And I'm not talking about having to buy a professional team and spend a lot of money (that is spent) ... just to be able to do something of quality as in other communities.

If we take a moment to review the contents of these videos published in social networks, over 90% are created without any preparation, just as a way to hang out and have fun ... even by and for a mostly childlike audience.

And of course that is acceptable ... I do not try to demean or throw away all the work that their authors have done ... just claim and try to take a step further in what animation with Playmobil is concerned.
